Combined Post - Guess What's Coming to Dinner
Still following the streamlined posting method (and back on schedule!) Find the combined non-spoilery post + picspam for Guess What's Coming to Dinner.

A shaky alliance between the Colonial Fleet and Cylon rebels is put to the test when the two groups combine efforts to take out a Cylon "Resurrection Hub". Meanwhile, Athena loses control when Hera becomes unnaturally drawn to Natalie.

For Your Consideration

This is what I’m gonna call BSG’s second musical episode. “Crossroads” being the first.

Here we learn that Felix Gaeta can sing! He sings about a lost leg love while mourning his lost love leg. Bear McCreary writes a bit about composing that segment and provides the music for Gaeta’s ballad, and I encourage you all to check it out here if you haven’t already.

So for the first “for your consideration” question I ask what you think of the song. Do you think there’s a deeper symbolism to it (as with the hybrid’s haikus), or is it just pretty words?

The final four seem to attach some significance to the fact that Gaeta sings and the looks traded between them indicate that they consider music/singing the mark of Cylon-ness. Do you? Could Gaeta be the last Cylon?

Laura seems pretty pissed about Tory being a “Charter Member of Gaius Baltar’s Nymph Squad.” What do you think she’s really pissed about, the fact that Tory’s sleeping with Gaius, or the fact that Tory lied to her?

Laura then orders Tory to sleep with Gaius to obtain information (or more accurately orders her to . . . umm, nevermind). This is the second time someone’s ordered Tory to sleep with Gaius. Do you think this is sexist? If the roles were reversed, can you imagine someone ordering Gaius to sleep with Tory?

One of the more interesting segments was when Laura asked Kara to help her. Up to this point there’d been little love lost between the two of them. After all, Laura had tried to shoot Kara (at Kara’s request). So why did Kara so quickly agree to help Laura? Was it that Kara wanted the truth as well? Was it Laura’s innate charisma? Was it Kara’s determination also to reach Earth? Or was it something else?

What else do you think is worth noting in this episode? The agreement between the Cylons? Sharon shooting Natalie? Just how incredibly creepy Hera is? The recurrence of the opera house dream? The nod to the final Tracy/Hepburn movie? Spill!

The nod to the final Tracy/Hepburn movie?
That was the first thing I thought of when I learned of the title for this ep...so let's see...

Laura = Katherine Hepburn
Bill = Spencer Tracy
Natalie = Sidney Poitier

hm...

***
And yes...Hera is the creepiest child ever. Remind me sometime to share with my flist my frightening history with evil!dolls and creepy!kids. *shudder*

I've never liked any of the Eights and this episode just increased my 8!hate. But Laura, Laura was amazing. Bitchy!Laura is always fun even if it was brought about by Tory's betrayal.

(On a side note...is it just me, or is Baltar's chest hair extremely disturbing?)

I dunno, seeing Robin Williams shirtless pretty much inoculated me against all other hairy guys.

I don't think that Tory and Laura have a relationship where Laura would forgive Tory easily.

Is that b/c Laura knows that what Tory wants more than anything is Laura's trust and 'attention' (for lack of a better word) and so withholds it to punish her, or simply b/c that's they're dynamic?

But the thing is, instead of the squicky ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww thing we have going on with Tory, it'd be HILARIOUS. I don't know if that's just my twisted imagination or if it's funny because it goes against gender roles that the woman pimps out the male.

/files away w/ plot bunnies b/c that could be funny & awesome.

What do you think Laura’s really pissed about, the fact that Tory’s sleeping with Gaius, or the fact that Tory lied to her?

I think Bill's betrayal issues have finally rubbed off on Laura. *g*

All kidding aside, I think the larger issue for Laura is not that Tory is lying to her about Baltar, but that Tory is involved with him in the first place. Laura has a habit of personalizing things when it comes to Gaius, and also takes a rather black and white stance when it comes to choosing sides (Laura vs. Gaius).

That whole Hera/Natalie/Sharon thing still has me scratching my head, so if anyone has any insight, I'd love to hear it.

Sharon (Boomer, all the other Eights) is an idiot and should be airlocked?

Sorry...my 8!hate is coming out again.

LOL... Yes, Hera, despite being quite cute, is actually quite creepy. (^_^)" (On another side-random note: Laura has really nice nails... how?) Anyways, The dream scenes and the dynamics between the people of the opera house are still confusing to me, and I'm still waiting for more to be revealed on that front.

As for Tory and Laura? I think that Laura really took it as a personal betrayal... because Gaius is one of those few people that Laura really lets get under her skin, and to find that Tory has been sleeping with him? She doesn't want to hear it because she doesn't it deserves to be heard, which in turn leaves Tory feeling hurt and abandoned. (^_^)" As for the relationship between Laura and Tory, it is much more distanced than what she had with Billy, as much a protective instinct (since the first scene where we actually meet Tory, Laura's holding and smiling at a picture of her and Billy) as distinctive difference between the two aides we've seen with her. Billy (and one can argue even Maya) were rather more innocent and naive... while Tory is a professional. She's efficient, she's calculating, and she's very much like Politician!Laura, but the thing is when it comes to their "relationship," it is quite apparent in "Escape Veloicity" that Laura Roslin does indeed trust Tory at least on a professional level, but that in itself, that Laura is feeling unsure and vulnerable and most likely taken advantaged of in her own strange way probably resulted in the recoil reaction that we saw. (^_^) At least, I think. LOL!

And Gaius Baltar is just... a fascinating creature. XD

Neither. She's pissed because Tory was sleeping with Baltar, and lying about it, and Laura didn't figure it out. I think she's more pissed at not knowing than at the fact that it happened.

And somehow, the "Laura orders Tory to sleep with Baltar" has never really bothered me that much, probably because Tory already WAS sleeping with Baltar. I think she was essentially just saying "You got yourself into this situation, now use it."

I do start humming the Omen theme when Hera is in the ep! And how do I love thee, let me count the ways when Laura *bitch slaps* Tory down! Those caps are amazing there. Laura looks luminescent. The Opera House....I still have no frakking clue as to where they are going with that....and *sad face* for Natalie dying, when Cottle grabbed her hand I admit to welling up a little! SEARIDER FALCON FTW!!!
